Name: Urvashi
Date of Birth: 01/08/86
Nationality: British-Asian
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in India but I was raised in Britain, cause I came here when I was two, so, I don't remember India much.
How long have you been in ISKCON?
I've been in ISKCON for over six years, I
think!
How did you come to Krishna
consciousness?
(Laughs) err okay it's a long story (laughs). Well what happened was, I have a far
aunt err who happened to hold a program down her house, and she invited me along. I went and found it was the
Hare Krishna devotees! Haribol! That's the first time I came in contact with
devotees. It was lovely and I went every Friday, and I still go on Fridays (laughs).
Have you ever lived in a temple?
No I haven't, but I'd love to (laughs).
What attracted you to the Leicester
Temple?
Err the devotees, err the Temple itself, because it's
beautiful and so peaceful. Devotees in the Leicester Temple are very nice and very friendly.
Do you
preach?
I've had various preaching activities over the years. At the moment I'm preaching in my college to a couple of students with my teacher. I brought them to the
temple. That's really all I'm doing at the moment, but I preach every time I get a chance to, if I meet someone or something. I go on sankirtan, and book distribution and all that as well. |
How often do you do
that?
Okay (laughs) err I go every year in December to distribute
Bhagavad-gitas for Gita-jayanti and err and I go when ever I get the chance to go.
Do you enjoy doing it?
Oh yeah it's lovely, it's a very good experience.
Why did you start doing it?
Err because Srila Prabhupada wanted us to preach the movement through his books, and I think
Prabhupada's books are wonderful. I think people out there should have the opportunity to read these great books.
How would you like to see the ISKCON movement
expand?
(Laughs) err (more laughs) I'd like to definitely have a bigger
temple in Leicester. I don't know I'd just like to have more youth groups, more youth programs in Leicester because we don't have any. Have more people, more young people coming to the
temple definitely. I just generally would like to see the
Krishna consciousness movement go to every person and every home.
Why do you feel it important to bring in more
youth?
Because there aren't many youth in the temple and I suppose we
need them like in Birmingham and in London there's lots of youth. They have quite
a lot of activities at the temples ,so I think we should have something like this. |
