Dear
Devotees, Supporters and Friends ...
Welcome to the
August edition of our Multimedia Newsletter.
This time we
have wonderful contributions from other
devotees authors as well as some interesting
links. This issue is packed with all sorts of
things, ranging from scholarly articles by Aniha
Prabhu to delicious recipes from Bhaktin Shradha
to some nice realisations from Pavitra mataji
from Detroit. There are also some new bhajans on
our Real Audio Page.
Sunday 9 September His Holiness
Sivarama Swami will be coming to Leicester. He
is specially flying in from Hungary to give
Diksa initiation to Bhaktin Shradha and to
preside over a Siksa Blessing Giving Ceremony
for several of our congregational members who
are prepared to make a serious commitment in
devotional service by publicly stating their
vows at various levels such as Sraddhavan,
Krishna Sevaka, Krishna Sadhaka, Srila
Prabhupada Asraya and Sri Guru Caran Asraya. We are expecting a huge
turnout. Don't miss this great opportunity. This is an open
invitation for all to take advantage of
Maharaja's association and to witness the serious
commitment of some of our devotees on this most auspicious day.
Another important news is perhaps that we are
in close consultation with some devotees from
Eastern Europe who are
interested in coming to Leicester and serving with us at the temple. Our
advert in various forums and conferences has
produced a tangible result it seems. More
and more devotees are inquiring about the
opportunity to serve in Leicester. For more
information click
here.
Leicester is a pioneering field with so many
opportunities due to the largest Indian
community in the U.K. Please get in touch with
us if you are interested in staying for some
time or just to take a break from every day's hassle and stress. Full training will be given in
the techniques of spiritual life and in a
variety of fields of Krishna consciousness. The
temple, with its beautiful surroundings, is
truly a spiritual oasis, which is able to quench the
thirst of any sincere traveler. For more

But the reason I do not immediately reciprocate the affection of living beings even when they worship Me, O gopis, is that I want to intensify their loving devotion. They then become like a poor man who has gained some wealth and then lost it, and who thus becomes so anxious about it that he can think of nothing else. (SB

Grandfather is more
Merciful than Father
...
The whole time I was cooking, I was thinking how pleased Srila Prabhupada would be with this wheat germ
halava. This was my whole meditation, how Srila Prabhupada would be so pleased.
Then I offered it and brought it to Srila Prabhupada in his room. I was waiting to see how he would like it. He looked up with a very sour look on his face and said,
"Halava means suji (cream of wheat)." With his left hand he motioned saying, "Take this away." When someone rejects something with his left hand, it is very heavy. So broken heartedly, I took the bowl of halava out of the room.

Make it Short, Sweet
and to the Point!
... As I stepped forward, I laughed to
myself remembering how when I first joined the Krsna consciousness
movement 31 years ago I was nervous to speak before a group of 10
devotees. Now here I was about to address 200,000 young people who would
be listening attentively to my every word. I thought to myself,
"Make it short, sweet and to the point." [More]
Why
Do You Worship Idols?
... “Because
the material elements are the Lord’s own energy and because there is
no difference between the energy and the energetic, the Lord can appear
through any element. Just as the Sun can act through the sunshine and
thus distribute its heat and light, so Krishna, by His inconceivable
power, can appear in His original spiritual form in any material
element, including stone, wood, paint, gold, silver and jewels, because
the material elements are all His energy. The scriptures warn that one
should never think of the Deity within the temple as stone, wood or any
other material element.” [More]

From The Other Side
It
has always been considered allowable for parents to tell children, “Do
as I say, not as I do”. If we were to hear such an instruction from a
preacher of religion however, the tendency for the vast majority would
be to ignore whatever was said, especially so nowadays when the public
no longer finds it acceptable for those in authority to sweep wrong
doings under the carpet. [More]
A
Glorious History
...
“Delivery
from the fire of suffering in the world of change is not the highest
goal,” said my companion. “That delivery is only the first step on
the infinite path that leads into God’s forgotten world, the path on
which the guru who loves God leads his disciple.”
“What kind of a path is that? What is the goal?” I asked
expectantly.
“The path is love, the goal is love, ever greater, ever more
heart-felt love of God. Just as it is the nature of fire to burn, so it
is the nature of the human soul to love God. Just as a spark is evidence
of a fire, because it is burning, the soul is evidence of God, because
it loves. The spark is the single soul, the great fire of love is
God…” [More]
Beg,
Borrow or Steal
... “Pure devotional service in Krishna
consciousness cannot be had even by pious activity in hundreds and
thousands of lives. It can be attained only by paying one price – that
is intense greed to obtain it. If it is available somewhere, one must
purchase it without delay.” [More]
